Hotel industry significantly impacts the environment and affects scarce natural resources. Inefficient use of energy and water as well as water pollution examples of threats to sensitive marine life.
The Challenge – Sustainable Tourism Development in Egypt
Conserve natural resources such as clean beaches, healthy marine life, protected areas.
Green Star Hotel initiative (GSHI) – a national eco-certification and capacity building program. GHSI Was started in 2007 to improve the environmental performance and competitiveness of Egyptian hotel industry, with technical assistance provided by GIZ.
Green Star Hotel will be implemented on a national scale. Effort commonly leads by Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and key private sector players.
